We got a new guitar player, embarassingly named “Hirotaka,” which makes him the perfect 69 complement to our singer “Takahiro.” You can hear his chops on tracks 2 & 4 of the new single, as well as see his pretty mug in the new photo to your left.
We have also decided to grace you with our other hit “!i!” free of charge! This will appear on a ska compilation here in Japan soon, but you can hear it now by clicking to our myspace page over at the right.
Lastly, I have been greatly enjoying this website, Mutant Sounds
They find very, very obscure records and put them up for free download. There are a lot of prog/psych/folk things I don’t care much about, and occasionally late 70’s new wave / punk stuff I do. The best thing I found so far is “Social Climbers,” and the song “That’s Why” in particular.
Check it out if you have a lot of time and are so inclined.

TOUR

Last weekend we rented a car and took it out of Tokyo with a trip to Yokohama Saturday and Shizuoka Sunday. Both events were fantastic and full of too much joy and detail to properly catalog here.
Personal highlights:
1) There is a service here and when you get too drunk to drive your car you dial them up, 2 men arrive in 1 vehicle, 1 hops out, into yours and sits in full uniform with excellent posture and hands exactly at the 10 and 2 positions as he carts your drunken asses around. It is hilarious.
2) The DJ in Shizuoka playing El Bosso and Die Ping Pongs “Immer Nur Ska.” I skanked! I asked her friend what music she liked and she said Ngobo Ngobo. 
These are my people. LATE 80’s GERMAN SKA OR DIE!
3) Wandering shithouse drunk around Shizuoka Sunday night Takahiro pointed out a sign which said 夜の蝶追放 or literally “Night Butterfly Banishment.” Teen hookers do your dirty business elsewhere!

Shit Hits the NANOX Fans — in Nagano

We loaded up and took a bus 4 hours over to Nagano where a select few were offered the opportunity to purchase advance copies of the Repetition Shit Sandwich single!
And we played.
A good time was had by all. I got to interview Fink for the Nikkei Sindex (The Raydios played too), and the very fine gentlemen in The Buddies were kind enough to put us up a their house.
Never having been out of Tokyo, I was shocked to see a real-sized, fuctional house. Plus it was up a windy mountain road, looking out over a temple, and then the entire city. Totally amazing! The photo above is us on that balcony around 6 am or so. I’m not much of a photographer so you can’t really see all the sweet stuff I just mentioned — but it exists!

And this is where the magic happens

Yes, my shirt matches my keyboard. A couple of days ago NANOX once again entered the studio, recording for, of all things, a ska compilation!
I played ska enthusiastically from around 1991 to 1999 and have spent from 2000 to 2008 trying to escape it, yet the rude boys keep on my tail, dem won’t make no bail, and so on.
Fortunately NANOX doesn’t give a crap what kind of compilation it is. We recorded one instrumental “Esca-La-Tion,” and a really catchy number, “!i!,” or “Exclamation i!” for you amatuers. Not an offbeat in sight!
I think the finished product will be real real good and as soon as any format of these songs is available for consumption, you will be the first to know!

NANOX — THE VIDEO!

Yesterday we shot a video for our song “Repetition” (7″ coming soon on Shit Sandwich Records) in a warehouse in Naka-meguro. I was whiny I had to bring my farfisa but our drummer actually brought an entire drumset on the train, I honestly don’t know how he did it.
We met at 9:30 am and shot til 9 pm. We took everything twice, once in front of a white background (not unlike early Elvis Costello videos if I do say so myself) and again in front of a black background with a lighting effect. I think the finished product will be pretty good!
No project in Japan is complete without getting shithouse afterwards so we lugged all our gear to a restaurant and did it up. Maybe it was my youthful exuberance, maybe it was the 20 year olds we were with, but we got carded — the first time I’ve ever even seen that happen here!
No drinking in Japan is complete without vomiting, passing out, or exposed genitals, and last night was no exception! We took a group photo, 15 or so of us, and Yamachan (NANOX - DRUMS) pokes me in the shoulder and points down and sure enough, he had his dick out! Well done Yamachan, I don’t think anyone else even noticed!
I don’t know when the video will be done, hopefully soon and I’ll put a link up.
